Safeguarding children and creating a culture of vigilance is a priority for every school. It is essential that all staff have a level of knowledge which enables them to identify signs of abuse and specific safeguarding issues and what action they must take. Updated September 2021.
Compliance
The DfE statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) requires that governing bodies and boards should ensure that all staff read and understand Part One of the guidance document. It is good practice to refresh this knowledge annually and any new staff joining throughout the year should receive the same information.
How
This Toolkit supports schools in delivering their own induction and refresher sessions covering all aspects of the Part One Guidance. This includes a presentation that can be delivered by a senior leader or the Designated Safeguarding Lead in school, a self assessment questionnaire for staff completion and various supporting documents and factsheets. The toolkit also includes all the materials you will need to set up a Safeguarding Information Point in school, demonstrating your commitment to keeping safeguarding on the agenda.
This toolkit is available now to enable schools to run Safeguarding Induction sessions from September 2021.
